The Tallis Chamber Orchestra was founded in 2005 by a collection of local Wilmington musicians. Our first concert was in January of 2006, which began with "O Sacrum Convivium" by Thomas Tallis. Since that first performance, we've played over 70 concerts with more than 300 different compositions. Nine of those compositions were written by local Wilmington composers, some created specifically for our orchestra.

We are proud to give back to our  community by fundraising for local charities at many of our concerts. Our annual TCO Baroque Christmas concert has raised over $9,000 for the Good Shepherd Center. Other organizations we've helped support include: NourishNC, the National Parkinson's Foundation, the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, and the NHRMC Pink Ribbon Project.

A typical Tallis Chamber Orchestra concert consists of 16 to 18 musicians.  However, over the years more than 60 musicians have participated in the group. A number of our musicians serve as teachers and mentors in the area. In fact at a concert in December 2013, there were eight musicians playing who were at one time students of other members of the orchestra.

Alongside our full-orchestra concerts, we have Tallis Chamber Players concerts, which are smaller groups composed of  musicians from our orchestra. Details about these events can also be found on our events page.
